Betunizer ‎– Gran Veta CD

In a conversation that would last until four o'clock at night, the teacher Daniel Higgs showed us the way: What matters in a group is not that it is innovative, but that it has personality. Lungfish -the group in which Higgs sang- are the perfect group to illustrate this idea. Geometric splendor. Ali Farka Toure. And of course Betunizer. Starting from stylistic premises that reveal a DNA strongly marked by post-hardcore, punk and noise rock, the Valencian trio has gradually shaped a memorable style book that has no rival in the world. They go for all they win. They spank you, spit on your shoes and steal your wallet. Their way of life is to be the fucking masters, at every concert, on every record. They have no problem enriching their speech with The Ex, Za!, Unicornibot, Sonic Youth, No More Lies or Jesus Lizard -and paying tribute in their songs-, but in reality there is no one like them. Daniel Higgs would agree that nothing better can be said about a band: there's no one like them.

The group's third album after Who Is Born To Die Hanged Will Never Die Drowned (direct, visceral) and Boogalizer (sexy, incandescent) brings together everything that has made this group great (unstoppable, complex and funky rhythm section at the same time -a charge of Marcos Junquera (drums, percussion) and Pablo Peiró (bass)-; the urgent and sarcastic way of singing by Jose Guerrero (in addition to being responsible for the guitars, full of groove and roughness), with those lyrics and titles so Betunizer; some compositions that catch fire and explode at the least expected moment) and presents it in a more complex and elaborate, less crazy way (although there are still moments when the roof is filled with fire and the most primal debauchery reigns). Like when Talking Heads entered their Fear of Music stage, but without losing their viscerality: it would be absurd to say that Betunizer have matured and are making more cerebral songs, but it is true that Gran Veta is their most balanced album and on which some of his best songs. Those who grew up listening to mathematical punk rock with glasses will be able to get enough of counting listening to Gran Veta and the black friends who are only looking for music that makes you want to fuck will also enjoy the album. Fans of contemporary and modern sounds will find themselves at home here; a troglodyte mistakenly teleported to one of his concerts as well. Betunizer sound black and white at the same time. Modern and ancient. In Gran Veta there is something for everyone. Jolgorio, rhythms, lashes. Art.
